Alchemy is protosains that combines elements of chemistry, physics, astrology, art, semiotics, metallurgy, medicine, mysticism, and religion. Two interrelated objectives sought by many alchemists were philosophers stone, a mythical substance that allows the transmutation of common metals into gold; and universal Panacea, a drug that can cure all diseases and prolong life. Alchemy can be seen as the forerunner of modern chemistry before he put the scientific method.
The word alchemy comes from the Arabic al-kimiya or al-khimiya (الكيمياء or الخيمياء), which may be formed from particles of al-and the Greek word khumeia (χυμεία) which means "print with", "pour together", "melt", "alloy", etc. (from khumatos, "which is poured, the metal rod"). Another etymology of this word is linked with the word "Al-Kemi", meaning "Egyptian Art", since the Ancient Egyptians called their country "Kemi" and is seen as a powerful witch in the ancient world.
